The Palencia Club

The Palencia Club

It is a private club, but I was invited so I could try it out. The course is designed by Arthur Hills, and you can tell after a few holes. The layout is beautiful and the bunkers and the water are strategically placed and also appeal to the eye. The back tee makes the course measuring 7,071 yards along marshes and old maritime oaks along the Intercoastal waterway. The staff was very friendly but I guess you would expect that on a private course. The fairways were not as good as I had expected and that surprised me, but as a defense it should also be said that despite what I had been told they were not wet even though we had had a lot of rain the last couple of days. The greens were in a good condition, and they fitted my game because they were not too fast. Some were elevated in a new way for me. You had to get the ball up with a good shot if not it rolled far away. The practice area was fantastically big and wide with flags giving the distance, chipping and putting area were also very good. I liked the course and the views. It was tricky but in a good way, so if you play this course a few times I think you will enjoy it even more. I will at least try to get a new invitation as soon as possible!

We played from blue tee which measures 6110 yards, good for a 20 hcp player.

I went back in November 2019 and to my joy the fairways were in a very good condition this time, we played on a Monday and the grass was a little bit high. (I do not think they are open on Mondays normally so that might be why the grass was a little long.)
