Osprey Point Golf Course

Osprey Point Golf Course

Far away from St Augustine is this course, but I went mainly to see and old childhood friend that I had not seen for 45 years and we both played golf nowadays. It was according to the GPS a 4 hour and 30 minute’s drive but I took it easy and did it in just under 6 hours (have to eat and stretch a little). The Kiawah Island was a new experience and a very pleasant one with a lot of good courses and good restaurants, and we enjoyed both. My friend and his wife had played the Ocean course when I came, so I waited by the 18’s green tasting the local beer. They had a long game; it took over 5 hours and it was 92 degrees and only walking, so they were happy to see me and the beer.

The next morning, we went to the Osprey Point Golf course which has been a private course but now is open. In 2014 it was completely renovated into a championship level course with world class layout by Tom Fazio. There was 5 tees and one combination and my friend and I chose Kiawah (Blue) tee which measures 5376 with a slope/rating of 114/65.2, and his wife played Carolina (Red) measuring 4746 with a slope/rating of 113/67.2 for women. The Tournament (Black) tee measure 6902 yards and slope/rating of 135/72.8, so there should be a tee for everybody. The staff was fantastic, very friendly, and took the time to explain all about the course and the rules. We started off at the driving range where there were free balls of good quality and markers out on the field.  There was also a nice putting green, which I missed, and that showed in the score for the first holes. Out on the course the layout was very nice, and the grass was superb, We started later in the day so the grass in the ruff was not too sticky. The nature around was also fantastic with a lot a birds, but we did not see any alligators until we came to the clubhouse. We did see a few ospreys, and one of them you can see on one of the photos. It was a very pleasant day and I can only recommend this course. My friends even thought it was as good as the Ocean course, but that could of course be due to the company.
