Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club
The design is sort of traditional but with large greens. The fairways were many times edged by water and some bunkers is placed in strategic places, not too many bunkers just enough. The quality of the fairways and greens were top class, they are using a new strain of Bermuda grass. The course is a very nice to play and the view was a beautiful, even if the weather was on the hot side (maybe 93F) it did not feel good when we reached the 18th hole, I could have had played a few holes more here. One more thing that should not be forgotten, they had air condition in the restroom’s out on the course. I was curious about the name and found out that the developer of this area Mr. Hodges’ honored his wife by using her name Kernan.
The course was built in 1999 and architect was Robert Walker. The course measures 6929 yards (73.3/135) from Gold tees, 6169 (69.4/125) from white tees and for women 5350 yards (70.6/118) from red tees. Glen Kernan is about 35 minutes from St. Augustine just north of J Turner Butler Blvd not too far away from the shopping mall, St Johns Town Center. It is a private course so I guess you have to become a member or be friend of a member to play here.
